The instructor broke out a few new songs at Zumba last night. We started off in the holiday spirit with Christmas Zumba! We did Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” as a warm up, appropriate as my girlfriend and I spent the weekend doing holiday activities like buying a tree and watching Love, Actually.
Later in the night she led us through “We Found Love” by Rihanna. Apparently this was a multiple student request. The instructor claimed she scoured YouTube hoping for Zumba inspiration but came up empty. I searched myself this morning and immediately found a very reasonable ab routine that is close to what we did.
I love our Zumba instructor but she did something during that song that I cannot condone. She dragged a couple of students out from the audience to help her “improvise” in front of the class. I have a firm policy against making people dance, especially by physical force. I’ve also known people who quit health clubs for being singled out in an exercise class.
We also did all of my favorites: “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5, “I Wanna Go” by Brittany Spears, and “Waka, Waka” by Shakira. I feel like half the excitement of Zumba class is hearing this week’s Zumba Top 20. I suppose it’s better than getting all my new music downloads from Gap commercials.
